We’re a different kind of party – join ordinary Suffolk people who believe that local government is out of touch and driven by national party politics.

You pay for it, so let’s make sure local government is responsive to the local voice of local people

Our position on issues affecting Suffolk are below - click here for more information about Suffolk Together

Waste - we urge less packaging, more recycling ; dealing with waste through local anaerobic digesters rather than one large, central incinerator which is much greener, cleaner and cheaper. Read more

Energy - we support Suffolk’s ambition to become a greener, cleaner county encouraging solar energy, ground -source heat pumps, wind-farming where appropriate, plus grants for more insulation and eco-friendly new –build housing.

Housing - we encourage affordable housing to help local people buy their own house locally.

Jobs - we support the plans of Suffolk Strategic Partnership for higher –level skills and job training - see also Transforming Suffolk

Leisure - we want to see Suffolk promoting sustainable eco-tourism and we continue to oppose the Snoasis proposals as environmentally damaging and financially unsound.

Roads - we want to get more freight onto rail and relieve the A14 plus we want to see a new Felixstowe Dock lorry park to eliminate current unsatisfactory ‘Operation Stack‘ arrangements.

Airports - we campaign for a stacking approach over the North Sea rather than over Suffolk and we oppose a second runway at Stansted.

Health - we campaign for the retention of rural surgeries and neighbourhood access plus we want to reverse the decline in services for the elderly.

Education – we want to see more local and village schools being retained and to ensure that the County is ready to take advantage of promised school building funds.

Coastal Erosion – we strongly support the campaign for the maintenance of coastal defences.

Food – we want to help promote local food, farmers’ markets and independent retail stores.

Pubs and Post Offices – we campaign for stricter planning restrictions on change of use applications to stop the closure of these vital rural facilities at the heart of communities.

Safe Communities - we want safe local and rural communities and want to help promote the new Police Community Support Officers Program.

Local Government – we believe that a single Unitary Council the better of the two alternatives on offer. But whatever the outcome of the Boundary Commission’s report, we will fight to secure strong Parish and Town representation on the “community boards” that are proposed to replace the District Councils.Read more

Planning - we think that there is insufficient integrated planning on infrastructure and environmental issues throughout the county. We want to balance achieving sustainable development without putting undue pressure on the environment. Suffolk Together believes that local people should have a real say in determining that balance and to achieve this we need to extend our influence from the District to the County Council.
